My Other Hobbies
Ever since I was a little kid, I have been in love with motorcycles. While all my friends
were playing with matchbox cars and Tonka trucks, I was playing with motorcycles. From
my Evel Kienevel wind-up stunt bike, GI Joe, Legos and many more, motorcycles were it
for me.
When I was a teenager, I decided one day I would go to the junkyard, find an old bike
and completely rebuild it. Well, when that time came, I quickly found out that finding an
old harley in a junkyard was never going to happen! So Ebay and Craigslist became my
solutions!
I won this 1966 BSA Lightning frame off Ebay in the summer of 2009, and quickly found
a complete rolling chassis with a 1960's BSA Hornet Engine off Craigslist. And from
that, my dream was starting to take shape!
Here are a bunch of pictures showing my progress so far.

This is what I started with (after giving up on the hardtailed frame I bought off Craigslist). I decided to stick with the swingarm because I want to be able to walk when I get older! I pulled the old stock shocks off
and found a new Harley-Davidson pair off Ebay for $10 !!!!! Some slight modifications, a simple bracket and it was done.
Once the rear end was set, I bought a front end from my local Brit shop BCF Cycle in Kirtland, Ohio. Great guys there, very helpful, and always ready to deal! After spending a couple of
hours trying to figure out which bearings I needed to fit the neck so I could mount the forks, I gave up. So the BCF guys mounted them for me. They ended up having to custom machine a
bearing race to fit modern Timkens in the neck cups, but well worth it in the end!
Here are the new rear shock mounts. I was afraid the simple mounts I started with wouldn't hold up over time, so I made these.
I won these Harley stock fenders off Ebay ($60 total!). There is a local guy who sells tons of HD stuff, and he's got so much, he doesn't seem to care what the price is! The rear had some taillight mounting
holes in it so I welded those up. I chopped about 5" off the length and it fits pretty good now.
Here is where I'm at now. Just waiting for
my crank and jugs to come back from the
grinder. Then on to engine assembly!
Here is the rear shock mount all welded
and ground in smooth! I'm really happy
with the end results.
